 Revolution mal ganz anders: Die USS (United Sailing Sims) docken an Nautilus an.Die erste, über Monate zwischen Linden Lab und den Estate Ownern vorbereite Kooperation im Grid ist seit heute Nacht offiziell!
Erstmals wird mit dem Andocken an Mainland seitens Linden Lab demonstriert, dass es den Zeitgeist wahr nimmt. Der größte "Deal" des ausgehenden Jahres in Second Life dürfte damit in die Bücher der SL-Geschichte eingehen.
Nachdem die Konditionen über viele Monate hinweg im Verborgenen ausgehandelt wurden, ist seit heute Nacht die offizielle Bestätigung inworld als Notecard ausgegeben worden. Eine der größten Gruppen und Estates in SL, die United Sailings Sims, zu denen auch der deutsche Schiffsratten Yacht Club gehört, haben in aller Stille etwas ganz Neues gemacht: Diese, ursprünglich aus acht Einzelestates bestehende Gruppe hat sich im Verlaufe des auslaufenden Jahres nicht nur zu einem zusammen hängenden Segel- und neuerdings auch Flugrevier zusammen geschlossen, man hat darüber hinaus auch mit Linden Lab (LL) über einen Umzug und ein Andocken an Mainland verhandelt. So werden die USS in den kommenden Wochen an die Ostseite des schwerverkäuflichen Neukontinents Nautilus ziehen, nicht zuletzt, um dessen Attraktivität zu steigern. Der Vorteil der Estates besteht dabei darin, dass sie eine Fläche von insgesamt ca. 40 Sims als nutzbare, landfreie Wasserfläche geschenkt bekommen, die komplett von LL finanziert wird und aus einem zentralen 6 x 6 Wassersims-Gebiet besteht, plus einem Verbindungskorridor ans Mainland. Der Verbindungskorridor, ein Ozean,trägt auch einen neuen Namen, Blake Sea, benannt nach Sir Peter Blake, der neben dem zweifachen Gewinn des Americas Cup auch Naturschützer war und im Rahmen seiner Tätigkeit 2001 ermordet wurde. Sir Peter Blake sagte:
Und dieses, anch ihm benannte Wasser, ist "gutes" Wasser. Dies ist die erste Kooperation zwischen OS Estate-Ownern und Linden Lab und ihrem Mainland in der Geschichte des Grid. Wobei die USS zwar eine völlig neue Topographie erhalten werden, jedoch ihre Autonomie weiterhin bestehen bleibt. Die ist auch eine Würdigung der Aktivitäten seitens der Residents, und in diesem Fall sogar einer mit deutscher Beteiligung, der "Schiffsratten", durch unsere amerikanische "Urmutter" Linden Lab. Die Auswirkungen auf die zukünftige Politik und SL im Allgemeinen sind zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt noch gar nicht abzusehen. Aber VWI wird die Leser auf dem Laufenden halten. To all friends of Sailors Cove, All of the owners of the USS are making an announcement that is unprecedented. We have been discussing a project that Jack Linden and Linden Labs has been thinking about for a whilenow. That being, setting up a joint large area of open water, a virtual Ocean, off of their new Nautilus Sims. They have made the offer to us to move and reconfigure the entire USS to fit into the area around there. We would in essence be connected to Mainland by water but all of the different Estates will retain their independent status. So we get the cake and eat it too:). The detail is simply that LL will set up a 6x6 grid of water plus a finger of water to the East side of the ocean grid. This body of water will be Governor Linden water and will connect to the mainland. We have all been hashing over different possibilities of how to make this work for our different estates. We will try to get a map out to you so that you can see the configuration since describing it here is very daunting We have been very vocal on all of our concerns in this endeavor and raised a lot of questions in light of all that has happened recently. All of the owners, met with Jack Linden to discuss this project in voice. In short, that meeting put to rest a lot of fear and concern about it. He is genuinely excited about it and the possibilities it brings to both parties. It also brings to the mix some stability for the USS as well. The land prices for mainland have remained stable through all of this Open Space fiasco. That stability will help Sailors Cove remain independent and get land values back on a positive growth. Plus, the sailing and flying possibilities are endless now. There is also a simple fact that Mainland supports the majority of the users in SL. This means more opportunity for growth of sailing. USS Announcement of Great Import December 19th, 2008 The United Sailing Sims announces a joint community project with Linden Lab to enhance the sailing experience throughout Second Life. Once the move of the 130 plus sim complex takes place to an area east of Nautilus City, the USS will be well positioned to expand their current activities into the 40 plus sims of the about to be formed Blake Sea(named for Sir Peter Blake, the legendary racer and marine environmentalist). From sailboat racing, to scuba diving, to surfing, to long range cruising, the areas around Nautilus, Blake Sea, and the United Sailing Sims will provide Second Life Residents with unparalleled recreational possibilities. In addition the USS leadership will work with Linden Lab to enhance water based activities across the entire Grid. Linden Lab states in their formal announcement that “this is the first time that we’ve allowed estates to connect to the Mainland in this way, and it is testimony to both the great community the USS has built up, and our desire to work with resident groups to improve the Mainland experience.” The actual move will take place in the weeks ahead.
